Big Spring Projects

We have decided on several projects that will keep us busy right up until summer. If any of these projects sound interesting to you or you are able to help in any way possible - volunteering, donating supplies, donating money, prayer support, etc. - please do not hesitate to call or email us.

1) Updating Cabins -

Why the cabin refurbishment?
Most of our cabins were built in the early '70s and designed with summer only use. They have worked well, but after 30 years of wear and tear from kids of all ages, they are coming quite close to the end of their usable life. We also have many groups that come in the fall that are growing, but we only have so much heated space for them. To be good stewards with the gifts God has given us, we chose to refurbish the best 6 summer cabins along with the current 4 heated cabins to prolong their life and give expanded space to the fall, winter, and spring guest groups.

This spring we hope to finish insulating, installing new windows, siding, and roofing to all the updated cabins (all 11).

2) Chapel Improvements - Finished!

We are removing the old theater seating from the chapel. Many are broken, so we opted to replace them with chairs. This will allow us to be more creative with the space in the chapel for both summer camp and our retreat groups. We will replace the seating with stackable, more comfortable chairs, as well as lay new carpet on the main floor.

3) Office - Gift Shop - Meeting Area Move - Nearly Complete

We are moving our offices/registration counter to the Mill Point building at the entrance to camp. We feel that having the offices/registration at the front of camp will make it easier when you arrive to know where to go, and increase the aesthetics and first impressions. WIth the offices moving out of the Lodge, we will be able to move the Gift Shop to the Lodge where the offices are currently, making it more accessible for guests. The current gift shop space will then become an additional new meeting space on the main campus of the property.

4) Trails - Wilderness Property Improvements -

We are planning on creating a new trail system out on the wilderness property to enable our guests to experience the outdoors more fully. We are getting some new horses and we want an expanded trail system for our guests to enjoy a longer riding trip. Other paths will be put in for hiking and mountain biking. We also hope to move the shooting ranges and archery out on the wilderness property to join the orienteering course. This will reduce the sound and risk on the main property.
